When voting in person, you will need to provide valid identification. Most voters can use a currently valid Utah driver license or Utah state identification card. Other forms of identification may also be accepted. Depending on your circumstances, you may also need to provide proof of U.S. citizenship or proof of residence. Proof of citizenship may be required when registering to vote or if the Election Office does not already have proof on file. Proof of residence is only required when registering to vote and voting on the same day.
1. Proof of Identity
Proof of identity establishes who you are. This can include a valid form of identification with your name and photograph, such as:
- A currently valid Utah driver license
- A currently valid Utah state identification card
- A currently valid identification card issued by the state or a branch, department, or agency of the United States
- A currently valid Utah permit to carry a concealed weapon
- A currently valid U.S. passport
- A currently valid U.S. military identification card
- A valid tribal identification card, Bureau of Indian Affairs card, or tribal treaty card, whether or not the card includes a photograph
You may also use two forms of identification that show your name and provide evidence that you reside in the voting precinct.
2. Proof of U.S. Citizenship
Proof of U.S. citizenship may be required when registering to vote or if the Election Office does not already have proof of citizenship on file.
Proof of U.S. citizenship may be established by one of the following:
- A Utah driver license or state identification number that verifies U.S. citizenship
- A legible copy of a birth certificate that verifies U.S. citizenship
- A legible copy of a U.S. passport that identifies you and your passport number
- An alien registration number that verifies U.S. citizenship
- A legible copy of U.S. naturalization documents
- A Bureau of Indian Affairs card number, tribal treaty card number, or tribal enrollment number
- A legible copy of a Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood or a Bureau of Indian
- Affairs affidavit of birth
- Other documents or methods of proving U.S. citizenship established in accordance with federal law
3. Proof of Residence
Proof of residence is only required if you register to vote and vote on the same day.
If required, you need to provide one proof of residence document, such as:
- A currently valid Utah driver license or state identification card that displays your current residential address
- A current utility bill dated within 90 days of the election
- A bank or other financial account statement
- A certified birth certificate
- A valid Social Security card
- A check issued by the state or federal government
- A paycheck from your employer
- A currently valid Utah hunting or fishing license
- Certified naturalization documentation
- A currently valid license issued by an authorized U.S. agency
- A certified copy of court records showing an adoption or name change
- A valid Medicaid, Medicare, or Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card
- A current Utah vehicle registration
- A currently valid identification card issued by a local government, employer, college, university, technical school, or professional school
